If you already send a free book to readers, chances are you know exactly why you need BookFunnel.
Dropbox, Google Drive, Mailchimp, they'll all host your books for you. And, no doubt, many readers will download those files just fine. But will they know how to get the book to their device once they do? Some have figured it out. Most haven't.
Just giving a link to download or attaching a file to an email is asking a lot of your readers.
BookFunnel walks them through the whole process, no matter what device they have. If they need help, we're there to help them. Our support team is knowledgeable in all the major devices and apps and will work hand-in-hand with your readers until they get their book.
Once you've uploaded your books, BookFunnel lets you create public links to those books that you can share with your readers. Whether you do giveaways to your Facebook group, eARCs to your street team, or just send out free books to your email subscribers, you just send the BookFunnel link to your book. It's that simple.
If you are sending a free ebook to new mailing list subscribers, you will include your BookFunnel download link in your "Welcome! Here’s your free book" email that your mailing list service sends once they confirm their email address.
Yes. If you would prefer to use BookFunnel to collect your reader’s email address, click here to learn more about BookFunnel Giveaways.
Yes, we answered that here under Billing.
We have an app for downloading books that we recommend for Kindle Fire readers and some Android device readers. It is not required, but it makes it very easy for your reader to download your book wirelessly. Our app exists only to make the download faster and simpler, and has no ads, no tracking, and no pop-ups.
It means we answer support requests from you and your readers first. When your readers request help with a book, they are automatically bumped to the top of the support queue. When you have a problem or a question for the BookFunnel team, we get to your inquiry first. Priority Support is available on the Bestseller and Small Publisher plans.
Yes, we can require your reader to provide a valid email address before we deliver the free book to them. If you use BookFunnel Giveaways, we will collect your reader’s email address before delivering the book file. If you prefer to collect email addresses on your own site, we do not recommend Giveaways because that means your reader must type in their email twice and wait for a confirmation email. It is too much friction and as you know, friction = lost subscribers. Instead, include an invitation in the back of your free book to join your mailing list or a teaser for the next book in your series to try and convert those freeloaders into paying customers!
No. BookFunnel download pages are not searchable or indexable, so a person can't "google" your book and find it. The only time your page could be indexed is if you or someone else posts the book on a public site like your blog, Instagram, or Pinterest. If your link gets shared publicly without your consent, you can easily expire the link that was shared and replace it with a new link in your "Welcome! Here’s your free book" email.
BookFunnel Certified Mail will allow you to easily send a unique link to each member of your review team and track exactly which readers download.
If you read your agreement with KDP Select, you will find that you are prohibited from distributing any digital version of your book anywhere. Some authors have been told that review copies are allowed, while other authors have been told a firm NO, and to send print copies for review (yes, really). Shipping paperbacks to reviewers is not feasible for most authors. Because Amazon is a bit murky on this one, you'll want to read your agreement with them and then decide for yourself how you want to proceed.
It means you can have as many books on your account as you like. We don't charge for the number of books you have with us, only the number of times they're downloaded.
Yes. You can create as many links to your books on BookFunnel as you like. You can also set an expiration date or total download limit to each link, and edit the link at anytime.
Yes. It is important that you let your readers know early and often that it is a sample/novella/short story. If a reader downloads it and does not realize it is a teaser or very short story, they can feel cheated or taken advantage of by you. We recommend a banner on the cover image as well as adding "5 First Chapters" or "Short Story" to the top of your download page.
Absolutely! You can either choose something like our one of our publisher plans, which allow for many author names under a single account. Or, you can simply have each author sign up for their own account, and then you manage them for the author.
We require an EPUB and a MOBI file with a PDF being optional.
If you don't have both of the required formats and are coming from a Word Doc, we recommend a service called Draft2Digital.com. They are actually a book distributor, but they also happen to have a top-notch Word Doc converter, and they allow you to use their converter even if you don't distribute through them.
That said, they also happen to be a great company capable of getting you into stores you probably can't reach on your own, so you should consider distributing your book through them.
Once you send your Word Doc through their converter, you can download the resulting EPUB and MOBI files they generate and then upload them back to us.
We are not affiliated with Draft2Digital in any way, they just provide an awesome service.
There are Kindle apps that won't let your reader import your book. The Kindle For PC app from the Microsoft App store, as well as the Windows phone will not let you open a book unless it is purchased directly from the Amazon Kindle Store. For these readers (and we see thousands of them every week), they have to download the EPUB. Otherwise, they cannot read your book. So, even though you are exclusive to Amazon, we still need an EPUB to reach all of your readers.
Yes. If you want your book to have a cover on all the reading apps and devices, you should embed your book cover in the file.
Yes, but you will need to create a MOBI and EPUB first. PDFs are great for printed materials like coloring pages, reference manuals, and even graphic novels or character dossiers. They are very unpleasant when reading, especially when a huge majority of readers we see are on mobile devices. Reading a PDF on a mobile screen is nearly impossible, and we want readers to LOVE their reading experience and your book.
Yes, you can upload a new cover, EPUB, or MOBI at anytime and it will overwrite your existing file. It will not affect your download link or interrupt your process at all.
Absolutely! You can upgrade your account at any time. Downgrading an annual plan will happen on your anniversary, and monthly plans can be downgraded every 90 days.
Yes. We will credit any unused portion of your original plan to your new plan when you upgrade.
It's best to choose a plan that suits your needs, but if you go over your monthly limit, there is a $5 charge for each 1,000 downloads you go over. You'll receive a notice if you are getting close to your limit so that you can adjust your plan if needed.
You can set a limit on your download links to restrict how many times a book can be downloaded, but BookFunnel won't allow a hard limit on the monthly downloads for your account.
We don't want to turn away your readers. That would result in a very poor experience for them and, above all, we want to make sure your readers can get their books and are happy. We hope you'll agree.
I am a full time parent trying to write and publish books in what I laughingly call my spare time. BookFunnel is easy to use and takes all the hassle out of the process when I need to give away arc copies of my books.
